This app helps you Remember.

Why we built this

When I was a young man, I followed a simple learning technique: I would take a 3x5 index card and write down quotes, definitions of new words, or notes from a book I was reading.

I carried these cards with me and flipped through them throughout the day. This simple habit greatly enhanced my retention of key ideas and led to noticeable changes in my behavior.

Recently, I recalled this technique, which had faded from my routine. I wanted to bring it back but chose to modernize my approach.

I built this iOS app for myself. With a serif typeface and an accent color that draws inspiration from traditional parchment paper, we crafted a basic flashcards app to input key quotes, focuses, and ideas, and then surface them more frequently in daily life. The recommended method of interacting with these digital “index cards” is a widget on your lock screen and home screen that rotates through the cards you have added.

I asked myself—if this app came pre-installed on the iPhone, how would it behave and where would it be surfaced to users throughout the operating system? I took advantage of several native APIs to enable creating cards when I highlight text in any app, from my lock screen or control center, when using the Shortcuts app, or even when talking to Siri.

My favorite aspect of this process was that I built this to solve a problem I had in a way that was simple and helpful. I was my own target user. I hope you find it as helpful as I do.
